York Row

York Row -- 116-134 Yorkville Ave., 10 Hazelton Ave.

OMB Hearing Summary (York Row)

"York Row" refers to the row of Victorian houses converted to shops on the north side of Yorkville, stretching west from Hazelton Avenue. In 1994 the Ontario Municipal Board approved a development for this site that would at least maintain the height of the present shops and allow a larger building to be constructed behind them (with a substantial setback). This proposal is more acceptable to the SAVE Yorkville committee than a new proposal that would place an entirely incompatible 10-storey hotel (with a setback of 3 metres above the podium) in the place of the Victorian shops that are slated for demolition. SAVE Yorkville has opposed this most recent proposal at the Ontario Municipal Board.   See link to OMB Hearing Summary, above for more detail.(Click below for architects' drawings for proposed hotel, and for an illustration of the 1994 OMB approved plan.)
